"Sneaker Waves"

Yesterday, Corban College celebrated President's Day by giving its students the day off! I headed off to Lincoln City with a few friends. We were planning to sit on the beach and watch the sunset. However, while we were taking pictures modeling on a certain rock waves glided gracefully around our dry refuge. Suddenly out of nowhere a wave rushed inches above the rock and soaked our feet! The four of us huddled on the rock, screaming. Expecting the wave to subside and leave us soggily trudging toward the dry sand, we were caught off guard when a second and then a third wave washed up to our knees. "Run!" one of the girls yelled. We leaped into the water and splashed to shore, laughing and freezing.
It was an hour before sunset. We all decided that we would much rather go to a warm coffee shop than sit out in the wind and cold. On our way back to the car we came to a sign that said something along the lines of "big waves come out of nowhere."
Instead of a coffee shop we went to Mo's and I enjoyed a mocha and a bread bowl of clam chowder. The sunset wasn't spectacular, but it was lovely. We took more pictures and then drove back to school. I took a hot shower, but it was still a long time before I was finally warm. Still, it was a very fun President's day.

10 Things For a Single Girl To Do On Valentine's Day

1) Facebook chat with a friend the night before and ask if she has any brilliant ideas that are cheap in a small town that has nothing to do and is something you don't do everyday.
2) Stay up 'til after midnight with your roommate looking for attractions in your town.
3) Go on a fast food five course lunch date with your roommate (suggested by your friend) that looks like this
a) Sonic - drinks b) Wendy's - shared appetizer of loaded fries (which are gross, by the way) c) Jack in the Box - shared Jumbo Jack d) Dairy Queen - dessert (not shared).
4) Tour the Bush House Museum for free because of Oregon's 100th birthday.
5) Surf the internet for cheap, good, homemade food.
6) Go to WinCo and buy the ingredients...and then go back because you forgot the broccoli and the cream of chicken soup for the chicken and broccoli casserole.
7) While making dinner realize that you bought cream of mushroom soup instead of cream of chicken soup.
8) Watch "We're Not Married" with Marilyn Monroe.
9) Make a delicious and healthy dessert of bananas drizzled with dark chocolate and a little vanilla yogurt on the side.
10) Watch "Catch and Release" at 11:00 p.m.

Alysun tagged me to post my fifth picture from my fifth photo album on my computer.


This is my horse's profile. Katie took it for me last year after I went to school. She has a 35 mm film camera, so I scanned this picture onto my computer. I love it because it focuses on Ribbon's beautiful head and eye and not her skinny body. I also like the palomino in the background and the way that Ribbon seems to be looking at him and moving the viewer's eye to see him too. It's a bit grainy and I'm not sure what the line at the top is, but I like it.

Now I'm supposed to tag five people to post their fifth picture from their fifth folder on their computer. Hmmm... Can I change the number? I don't know that many people who blog. I pick the number 2. I tag: Katie Miller and Jenny Cummings.

Creative Pottery

I'm not a very creative. I've already decided that I'm going to hire an interior decorator someday when I have a house of my own. I believe the reason that I'm not very creative is that I have a short patience clock. I would love to scrapbook or spend hours figuring out how to decorate my room and then find the cheapest way to do it and still make it look good. However, that involves too much time and work which I just don't have the patience for. I like simple, quick crafts that will still look good and won't invest too much of my time.
My hall went to "Create a Memory" last night. It's a place where you can paint pottery. I was the last one to start and the first one to finish. I selected a little square bowl (after about ten minutes of looking at this and that, bouncing back and forth between a travel mug, a completely unusable teapot because of its size, or a round bowl - all of which I put back in favor of the square bowl at the last minute.). I painted the outside and the inside different colors. It was looking a little too...solid. So, I took another color and began to paint a line around the inside edge of the bowl. As I began the second side, I noticed that the line was sloping noticeably downwards. "Oh, bother," I mumbled. "Well, I guess it's gonna be a spiral instead." I finished the spiral, sat back, and declared I was done. I'm quite proud of my bowl. It's not too plain. The colors match nicely, and I can't wait to see what it looks like after its been "fired." I get to pick it up on Tuesday.

A Whole New World

College has opened a whole new world for me. SPORTS! Before last year I had never been to a school football game, baseball game, basketball game, soccer game, anything thing game. My dad used to watch game son the t.v. and I'd just roll my eyes and return to my book. There's something unexciting - to my mind - about a sports game on a small, square screen. Even if it's a big, rectangle screen, it's still boring to me.
My roommate last year was a soccer player, so I went to her games and found that I love watching soccer games - as long as my face, hands, feet, and bottom aren't freezing off. It's amazing some of the tricks that soccer players can perform with a semi-hard black and white checkered ball. However, soccer season is over now.
But with the end of soccer season came basketball season. All year I've been wanting to go to one of our home games, but because of prior engagements or lack of courage because no one I knew well was going and I didn't want to go by myself (sorry for the run-on) I didn't go. Then last night a couple of my close friends said they were going and I jumped at the chance. It was so much fun! The theme for the night was white-out, so the stands were full of white shirts. I saw people I recognized. The guys on the court were from MY school and I have class with some of them. Why has basketball been absent from my life for so long? It was great fun and I plan on going more often.

A College Student's Dream...Denny's Style

What would posses two rational, 20 year old college students to set their alarms an hour earlier than usual? What could make them leave the warmth of their beds before the sun had even risen from her bed?
The answer: last Tuesday's Grand Slam Breakfast at Denny's for FREEEE!
The catch: getting up an hour earlier than usual and a really long line.
Two pancakes, two eggs, two sausage links, and two pieces of bacon...all without spending a dime!

"Sneaky" Snapshot

I snuck into Grandma Bonnie's room only to find Emma staring at me and watching my every move. "Can you pretend to be sleeping?" I whispered.
"What?" she whispered back.
"Pretend to be sleeping."
She smiled and shook her head. At the same moment, Mandy - who was supposedly sleeping - turned her head toward me with the brightest grin I've ever seen. Then she laid her head down by her sister's and I took their picture.
